Is 246 a competitive Step 1 Score?

Just got my step 1 score and it's a 246. I was hoping for a 250, but I'll live. Basically will 246 close any doors for me in terms of applying to competitive specialties or programs?

Of course it's competitive. Obviously for some fields more than others, but competitive regardless. Don't let anyone on SDN tell you otherwise.

At first I was going to like this post then I realized how much SDN warps our perspective. If someone didn't talk much to "real life" peers about Step 1 and their source of information was primarily SDN I could totally see how someone could be concerned for competitive specialties.

This place is nuts. OP, that is a great score and will NOT close any doors but for things like ortho or derm I don't think it will elevate you above your competition.

So you are just going to believe that someone goes through 2 years of medical school, is taught how to do high level critical thinking, learn about proper research methods, and self-teaching methods that have allowed them to be extremely successful on the Step, yet they didn't bother to figure out what a good score on Step is?

That, my friend, is insulting to everyone's intelligence. Everyone in med school talks about Step, about their ideal scores and about what residencies they want to at least be considered for, even if they aren't sure. Every med student knows ~230 is average and anything over 240 is a sweet spot that you want to be in. Asking me to believe that this person doesn't know what a good score is, is like a football fan asking if a touchdown is good.

Posts like this are just insulting. It is the highest form of douchebaggery and I find it offensive.

Don't know if srs or humblebrag. It's an objectively, obviously good score.
