I would greatly appreciate thoughts on my plan:

Year 1:
  • 12units/quarter: gen chem, math, pre-major
  • Nursing home volunteering (2hrs/wk)

Year 2:
    • 12units/quarter: ochem, bio, labs
    • research (6-8hr/wk)
    • Nursing home volunteering (2hrs/wk)

Year 3:
  • 16 units/quarter: G.E./major (easy)
  • Clinical volunteer: 4hrs/wk
  • research (6-8hr/wk)
  • Nursing home volunteering (2hrs/wk)

Year 4: same as 3

Year 5:
  • No school
  • Same research/clinical/volunteering, + part time job.

Does this sound like a good plan? the low amounts of activity in 1/2 are to allow for high sGPA in pre-major courses.

get some leadership experience in there

Edit: I would also recommend finding something you are passionate about to actively practice or develop during your undergrad. This is to not just to set yourself apart, but also to decompress from everything else pre-med related. For me it was marathon running, and I felt it really helped me keep focus with everything else that was going on.

This is somewhat what I did, except research labs at my university won't let you in without a 9-15 hour commitment. Point being is 3 is more than enough, even 2 is good.

Lol, try to think a little outside of the box. Undergrad is a great time to explore, push your boundaries, figure out what makes you tick. This plan is all well and good, but it's very boring (and it's been done, like hundreds of thousands of times!), and you don't want ADCOMs to fall asleep while reading your app/interviewing you. And you don't want cute girls (or guys) to fall asleep when you are chatting them up at the bar. Be a little daring, and explore things out of your comfort zone.
