I was wondering if, considering my stats, applying to 5 schools may not be enough to ensure my acceptance. These are the schools I'm applying to: (Florida resident)
UF
Nova
Case
VCU
UTenn

These are my current stats:
Overall GPA: 3.62
Science GPA: ~3.46

Haven't taken the DAT, but with Kaplan and no studying:
AA: 19
TS: 18
PAT: 18

Shadowed about 30 hours, lots of research experience (2 years), almost 100 hours of volunteering.

Thanks for your input!

sounds like you can get into at least one of those schools. but it doesnt hurt to spend another $200 to add a few other schools. at the end, you wont regret it.

I applied to 5. Gonna start classes in July. If you want added reasurrance, I see no problem in adding more. If you're comfortable with 5, go for it!

If you feel comfortable with 5, then by all means, don't spend anymore money. But, lets put this into perspective. If you apply to 4 or 5 more schools you will be spending about .01% of what you will spend once you're in school. Why not apply to more? In the scheme of things, it's a drop in the bucket.

It's not so much about the money, it's more about if I really see myself going to other schools. I was going to apply to Tufts, ,UPitt, and Indiana as well, but I don't see myself being happy in Boston or Pitt. And, Indiana requires Physiology which I don't think I"ll be able to fit into my schedule. The other schools I've look at don't take a very high out of state %, and I don't see myself being competitive enough to be the elite few accepted out of state.

Dont quote me on this...but I am not so sure its a good idea to apply to Tennesse (is that UT-Memphis?)...seems to me like very few out of staters get in. I know there's a 1st year who posts on the pre-dent forum a lot who (I think) was an out-of-state applicant to Tennessee and he got in (cant remember his name right now), but I would assume that a low amount of people get in from out of state each year.

I agree, UT Memphis accepts very few out of states with the exception of Arkansas. Also, UT Memphis does not participate in AADSAS so you have to fill out a completly different application just to apply.

Your stats seems good, and if your confident that you'll get in somewhere that five in enough. Me on the other hand, I am applying to 12 schools.

My stats are 3.7 gpa , and 3.75 science gpa. Haven't taken the DAT's yet, but I will be taking them soon. I just want to make sure that I am going to get in somewhere, so 12 schools it is, I may apply to another one or two if I feel like it.

So, what if I said, "No way, 5 isn't nearly enough!". Then what?

It sounds like you've got your 5 that you want, if there's no more schools in the 50+ that are out there that you want to go to, then don't apply to anymore. It as simple as that. But, if you don't get into any, trust me because I've been down this road, you will wish you would've applied to more. Not to mention, if you apply to some schools where you are for sure to get accepted, then that will "up your stock" in the other interviews you have for the schools you REALLY want to go to.

Don't make the same mistake I did 2 cycles ago, apply to plenty of schools, get into a bunch of them, then take your pick.

In my opinion, you will get into Nova, but I think its better safe than sorry.

Only one school is really needed as that is the number that you can actually attend. With your scores I think that you have a good shot at several of the five schools on your list. Whether or not five is an appropriate number is entirely up to you and your level of confidence. Apply to as many as you can realistically afford and only to those that you feel you have a good shot at and would be happy attending.
