Pardon my naivety, my aside from obviously needing a medical license number before fellowship, do we need to apply for a DEA number? Is this program or state specific?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You'll need it for that moonlighting you want to do. Just bite the bullet and pay for it.

If during your fellowship you think you will prescribe controlled substances at least once I think you need it, also if you are moonlighting during fellowship you will
Maybe asking your program coordinator is a good idea

It is program and state specific whether you actually need it for fellowship. But absolutely necessary if you're moonlighting.

And as with about 95% of the queries on SDN lately, this is the sort of thing you could have answered with a quick email to the PC.

Agree,
The intellectual quality of our discussions in these forums has really gone down
Most of the questions can be answered with just common sense or looking @ prior threads

Don't get it just for fellowship before asking your program coordinator. A lot of hospitals have some kind of governmental affiliation that may decrease (or even waive) your fee as long as you work there. Alternatively, the program may even pay for it.
