okay,
quick question.

An MOD is a class II or Class VI?

I have been taught Class II, however I am looking at notes from my professor and she says is Class VI.

Then to further complicate things she says that Class VI is a classification not used by all dentists.

thoughts?

It is a Class II. Doesn't a Class VI mean a cusp or incisal edge replacement?

class VI, from what I understand, is very rare. It involves a cusp tip of a posterior tooth. The classification system does have overlap, but if you have a pit and fissure cavity that gets large and ends up taking out a cusp tip, I think most dentists usually still class that a class I and if you get one that also involves 1 or more proximal surfaces, it is usually a class II.

Okey guys ...

Class 1 is DISTAL teeth only occlusaly
Class 2 is DISTAL teeth occlusaly Mesially AND/OR Distally
Class 3 is FRONTAL teeth Without the caries lession reaching to the incisal edge
Class 4 is FRONTAL teeth including the incisal edge
Class 5 is NECK region of all teeth
Class 6 is caries on the cusps of the teeth

The classification for Dental Caries Lessions(G.V.Black) is used WorldWide!

I hope i helped you

I am almost positive that Black never classified a class VI. I think that it was added later, and is not used by every school. Our school uses it and it involves a cusp tip.

so we had an exam today.

Before the exam I challenged the professor on the Class II vs Class VI for a MOD.

She admitted she made a mistake with the slide and apologized to the class.

Booyah.

Then on the exam there was a OL we had to classify. Half the class put Class II.... they should hang out on SDN so they'd know an OL is a Class I.
