Is a postbacc even necessary?

I was wondering if there is anyone out there that took their med school prereqs outside of a postbacc premedical program, and got into med school. What was your experience like?

For everyone else, does a postbac program really make a difference and give you a better chance at acceptance into med school? specific advice and experience would be greatly appreciated.

If this is a repost topic, sorry, and please direct me to the link. Thanks.

Yes -- taking courses a la carte at a university and not a formal postbac program is known as an "informal postbac". This can work for many folks. However you give up the advising of a postbac program as well as the presumed credibility of being a known commodity to med schools (as a postbac student of XYZ program). You also lose out on possible linkages, sponsorship, and to the extent a postbac markets their students to med school deans, you lose this as well. So for many, a formal postbac can be well worth the money too.
