Hi Everybody,
I gave my nbde part 1 in dec 2004 and got a score of 90.
I am really confused about whether I should give nbde part1 again to improve my chances for admission or rather give nbde part2. What I am hearing is that competition is getting tough this time and cut off points are increasing.
Please help!
Thanks!

Hi dmandhy1

Yes I agree with g3k, it's time to take Part 2. Consolidate your good Part 1 score with a equally good Part 2 score. That should get you in one of the schools.

Good luck

Thanks g3k and rahmed for your instant reply!
You guys just relieved me of a great worry.
Please keep me updated if you find something interesting related to this. I mean how the trend is going this time for admissions. I heard that last to last year even 86-89 was a good score but last year the cut off was at 90. So I was not sure what's gonna happen this time. This actually is the time to make a good decision.
This is a real great help.
Have a nice day!

cool score...all the best...do well....

More and more schools are following what others like UPenn have always done. See the "Whole" package. So while 90 is a very good score,it may not mean anything. Try to
-Get some work exp in the US,say work as an assistant.
-Try to do some kind of research at a school.
-Remember to present everything you have done back home at the time of application.
-Practise for the interview, but don't prepare answers. A lot of the people from the AdCom are aware of,and even follow, SDN. So if you start talking what you read here, they will see through you immediately.

Wish you all the best!

Oh ya,you might want to take your Part II.

hey,
i fully agree with bds-dmd!90 is a score thatz good enough!start preparing 4 part 2!at the same time try working as a dental assistant.this work experience really counts!all the best! 👍

hi,
a friend of mine got into NYU this yr with a score of 86.....so don't worry & don't get disheartened with all these posts.
bye.

I was wondering if 89 is as good as 90, what i mean is its only one away from 90, but its still 80's and 90 is 90's, does any univ has an official cut off of 90,

people definately think that 89 and 90 make big difference although it is just 1 point away. So far, more and more school would like to consider those with 90 above.(including 90)...I hate to say that but it is the fact!

Thanks guys for your wishful support.
I hope each of us gets dentistry somewhere in US.

Sorry drsj to reply late and I hope you would have already taken your part 1 this month.
But if you have not here is what i say. I studied on an average of 6-7 hours for a month and then around 10-12 hrs in the second month for my preparation. I did decks 2004, asda q papers and kaplan notes AND that was all.
All the best to all of you.

What Chances Do I Have With My Score (90) To Bu
Please Advice
Thanks

You are very very right. I'm glad to see more and more schools are learning from UPenn's selection style for the foreign dentist class, including more focus on diversity. Hopefully the trend will stick. Schools have realized that board scores may be far from that particular applicant's reality as a student and future practicioner.

Good luck everyone :luck:

Hi Guys,
No one seems to answer my question.
Do I have good chance for BU?
PLEASE ADVICE
THANKS
DD

Bu will definitely call you for an interview , but acceptance depends on the average score of other applicants......
a friend of mine last year was on the waiting list with 90... and ddint get in
its not impossible.. but dont lay all ure hopes on it..

Hi BDS-DMD. How does a BDS from India work as a Dental Assistant, even on a voluntary basis here. CI would like to in order to gain maybe 3-6 months exposure but I have no clue on how to approach it.
Could you please advise. Thanks.

well, i dont know if you will get in. a 90 is so common, 94+ seems to be the magic scores. you have 3 months. you can do it!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

do it now while youre hot!!!! 👍 👍 👍

goodluck :luck:

thanks everbody for answering so promptly
but again toothie when did your freind apply last year

Go and see all the dentists in your area. Tell them you are a qualified dentist and are applying for school here. Mention the fact that you would like to get familiar with the d=setting of the dental office s here.

At worst they will ask you to leave, politely or rudely. Don't give up. You will find some one who will help you.

You could also go to a school or hospital close by and offer to volunteer there.

mandhy

Go ahead and apply. Be confident. 90 is a good score. Other than BU, I don't think any other school gives so much importance to just the Part I score. Even if they do,you have an excellent score.

Start preparing your SOP and for your interview.

Contact me if you need any help.
