Is AMCAS going to start verifying faster?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would think that it would actually be slower (or the same) moving forward. More people probably applied on the second day than the first day and more on third than second....

Nope. They had 12000 as of the 27th and had verified 3000 by then. At that point they were still working on the 10th so that means at least 3k submitted day 1. Leaving 9000 to submit between the 11th and the 27th, which averages to less that 1k per day

Ahh makes sense. Thank you for a more reliable answer.

As other people have said, not at all. For a rough approximation of the proportion of people who submitted each day, check out the official verification thread. Even assuming SDN has a higher percentage of people submitting on the first day, there's still a very clear drop off after the first day.

if i was ready for review on the 14th, how long would it be
amcas sucks its ridic

Agreed. And I feel like by pushing the date back to the 10th, a lot of people who would've submitted between the 11th and 15th realized that if they worked hard they could submit day 1. If your app was ready on the 11tg, why not just get it in on the 10th ya know?

The verification time actually keeps going up and peaks during July, then the verification times goes back down. It's going to get slower before it gets faster.

Yeah but we were talking about time to verify all applications submitted on a particular day. Obviously that's going
To happen due to backlog but the number of applications received on day one was much higher than those received on subsequent days

Has anyone managed to straighten out at what point your application joins the queue?

For me, my transcript was received 2 days before I submitted my application, but my status didn't get updated to "ready for review" until a week after my transcript was received. Will my application join the queue based on my submission date or the date I got updated to "ready for review" status?

The general consensus seems to be that you join the queue when you're marked as "ready to review."

I see. I wonder why there is such a huge lag between receiving the transcript and marking somebody "ready for review"

SUCH a good question. Soooo frustrating hah. That delay screwed me up too

Did this lag start one week after submission? I see 3 people who submitted on 6/11, had the transcript received on 6/11 and were verified along with others who submitted on 6/11 but had the transcript received weeks prior. Perhaps the moment you join the queue doesn't translate to your place in the queue...... Either that or people are putting their "ready for review" date in the slot for "transcript received"

Ugh, maybe I should just get back to what I should be doing

I submitted in August last cycle and was verified in September. I submitted two weeks after the opening day this time and will be verified in October.

Hahah... I understand, I've obsessed over this way too much also. It's kinda impossible to stop 🙁 I try to put some of this energy into writing secondaries but that's hard.

Nobody cares about the pre-meds in this process. Administrative errors that screw over an applicant are just seen as an accident that has conveniently saved schools from having to consider one more candidate. If the pre-meds get mad, what are they going to do? Boycott AAMC and apply DO next year?

However, AAMC does care about what schools think, and I'm sure schools will not be very happy when they have less time to review more applications, and they definitely won't be happy if they have to extend their deadlines, come up with new interview dates, and basically reorganize their entire admissions calendar because AAMC failed to process primaries in a timely fashion.

Here's what I'm guessing could happen if this situation doesn't improve in the next few cycles: the med schools get so mad they change the system. Either they quit using the AAMCAS system altogether, or they ask students to submit transcripts/scores along with their essays when they submit their secondaries (and without waiting for verification.

BTW, did applicants send in secondaries BEFORE getting verified last year? I don't remember hearing about it, but it's sure happening this year.

this is so stressful..so basically if you applied two weeks after the deadline, you're not going to be verified until like mid-August? ..and at this point, you are no longer early.

guess it's my fault for lagging, but I really did think verification would pick up after the initial phase

Eh, a big part of 'early' is relative. They said 15,000 people had applied by June 27 or whatever. Assuming that once again approximately 45,000 people apply, I think it's fair to say being in the first third still counts as 'early'.

I agree, people are being neurotic because AMCAS is taking forever compared to other years, but it's when you're complete relative to everyone else this application cycle

Hope so! Seems like a ton of people are close to finishing those secondaries. It's gonna be a long cycle.

I was ready for review the second day it was open and didn't get verified for 35 days. I think part of it is the delay in opening the application has made everything exceptionally later this year.

My advice to everyone waiting is PREWRITE YOUR SECONDARIES!!!! That way you'll have super fast turnaround time and will get marked complete sooner.

actually if you submitted on 6/24 like you say you did (2 weeks after 6/10) then youre on pace to be verified next week, so make that early august. unless you mean you submitted, but are still waiting on transcripts or something, then that's another issue.

AMCAS is verifying people about 1 month and 4-5 days from their submission date at the moment

Applied last cycle at the last week of July. Was verified first week of September. I hope it's a little better this time

So would an early August completion date at schools for THIS CYCLE be considered "early"? I'm hoping it is. I just can't say for sure because this cycle is a bit abnormal in terms of how things have been happening.

if by completion date you mean get your secondaries in, then yea early august is still pretty early
