Realize that what is hot today might not be hot tomorrow; or it may be hotter.
Anesthesia is possible now, but who knows 4+ years down the line? The field has a lot of interesting things happening to it at the moment, like: increased interest from US grads (bad for IMGs), CRNA's getting a lot of autonomy in many states (bad for doctors), shortage of anesthesiologists (good for doctors and CRNAs). Obviously, since so many people are getting into it now, the shortage will decrease. Expect pay to decrease, due to more people entering the field and more CRNAs getting jobs. So it might be less competitive than it is now.
It could also go the total opposite direction and become the next dermatology. No one will know until it happens. Don't go to the Caribbean, or medical school in general, if you have your heart set on only one specialty and would be totally miserable going into another field. You need to keep an open mind and realize what you think is cool now you might hate down the line.
