I am planning to take an introducation to Anthropology course. I don't know if it's worth it. I've never taken any Anthropology courses b4. All I know I am interested in learning about different culture history.

This the course description for my school:
Basic concepts and methods of anthropology; culture and race; comparative study of social systems, religion, symbolism, art, and other institutions. Examples are drawn from a variety of cultures.

I hated Anthro but it could turn out to be very interesting for you if you find tribes and ancient stuff fascinating 😴

I thought it was ok, I enjoyed learning about the technology a culture develops and how that technology impacts the culture.

Anth is great. I thought I wasn't going to like it before I took Medical Anth, but then I ended up really enjoying the class. Anthropology relates to medicine in so many ways, I really think that it should be a required pre-req for med school. As a Dr., you will be dealing with people of all different backgrounds and beliefs, and trust me, i have learned so much about other cultures and the way medicine and science are socially constructed and not based simply on facts. It was a real eye opener, and it was definitely one of my favorite courses, so much so that I am now considering doing some Anth research work during my year off. Oh, and Anthropolgy is the study of cultures, not history, so it's not necesarily historically oriented. It is a very broad field and can be taught in many different ways. I took medical Anth, so it was focused on that branch of the field.

I took cultural anthropology and it was kind of interesting. Probably the easiest class I've taken in college.

Depends on what kind of anthropology we're talking about here. The Marxist theory type of anthropology is rather dry, in my opinion, but the Jane Goodall type of anthropology is seriously great. Intro courses to cultural anthropology tend to be heavy on social theory, which may or may not be your cup of tea. I'd suggest looking at the course syllabus.

I took Physical Anthropology, which was essentially just studying the recent evolution of humans. It was interesting, and I learned a lot, but it was kind of hard to put a lot of it into my "knowledge I'll reference forever" vault as soon as I learned how often the theories are revised, and appended, and updated to. But it is something I like to follow now (always had, but now I have a stronger base in it. Thank you National Geographic as a kid. 🙂 )

this course's outline is not out yet. But it's a intro to cultural anthropology course. Cultural just sound really broad....So I am question what exactly we will be learning
