Is anyone doing basic allergy research?

Is there even one professor working on basic allergy research (food, airborne, etc.)? What are some examples of professors working on closely related topics?

I know about the Food Allergy Science Initiative at Harvard/MIT/Yale, but that just started up, plus I didn't get into those schools... Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. Are you just wondering if there are researchers studying the physiological causes of allergy at all? Or are you asking about specific clinical programs at different schools? Because there are probably thousands of basic researchers in allergy. There's an entire institute at the NIH which funds research on allergy and autoimmune diseases (NIAID); you can check out their website for extramural researchers they fund (https://www.niaid.nih.gov/diseases-conditions/food-allergy)

It just seems like there are very few immunology depts at MSTPs that are working on the basic physiological causes of allergies. There is quite a bit of clinical work, but you don't see allergies being tackled at the same molecular level as say, autoimmune diseases. That's why Harvard/MIT/Yale launched FASI (https://www.broadinstitute.org/scientific-areas/food-allergy-science-initiative). The NIAID may have a commitment to food allergies, but the actual research they cite on that website is quite sparse.

I don't want to name my school but one of my classmates did a project that was very much about cellular physiology of allergic reactions and desensitization. I will say it's an MSTP that is not part of FASI.
