I have less than 11 weeks to go (excluding a 4-week break in December for the holidays) and I've pretty much been going non-stop since January. My school also requires a practicum project, and I present mine in December, so I'm busy doing that along with rotations. The end is definitely in sight, but the closer it gets, the more mentally exhausted I feel. I swear the days are blurring into one another.

Anyone else feel this way?

not me...this P4 year is a recover phase for me
i've been pretty relaxed the whole way

it definitely beats studying every minute of the day

I am relax, right now I am listening to Jason Mraz " I'm yours".

some people have pretty easy P4 years. Mine has not been, but it also hasn't been as intense as I expected/hoped.

but I'm a nerd.

I'd definitely rather be where I am than taking tests all the time, but I work all day and then work when I come home it seems. Plus, it doesn't help that my current rotation is about an hour and 15 minutes each way. Maybe the commute is getting to me. That, and I haven't had a break really since January. I just need a few weeks to not think about anything.

I lied a little. I've been wanting to pick up hours at work after rotations but I am beat after I get home. I'm just not made for a 5-day workweek. I want all 10 and 12 hour shifts!

I kind of miss being in class. You lose the social aspect of being with your class, no matter how much you hate them by the end of 3rd year!

This is true. I miss seeing some people (others I don't). And, it's hard seeing even the ones that are still local, because of time and other commitments. I feel like I'm a hermit now.

I am seriously mentally exhausted. The problem is, I'm only a P2! I've got a long road ahead of me yet. I'm just waiting for Christmas break to be here.

Did yours start this early or has it just recently begun?

There were times throughout pharmacy school where I was ready for semesters to be over with (probably usually around this time) but I think this is more in anticipation of being finished completely.

I actually feel bad for my friends who already had their month off. They are totally jonesing for graduation now that they've tasted freedom.

At least you haven't yet!

Just wait til residency...you will be mentally and physically exhausted 🙁

I had an exam in every class last week and I can honestly say I did nothing all weekend.
It felt great, I was fried.

Yes. But it's because of the APhA-ASP Region 7 MRM. I'm so nervous for this weekend.

Gee, I am a P1 and hate my classmates already.

you'll find at least one person in your class. But I'm pretty sure that there's a broad distribution of douchebags across all pharmacy schools.

LOL oh great

I win!
I e-mailed my supervisors today to let them know that I'd like to pick up some more hours (currently working 1 8-hr shift per week due to rotations. Worked ~25 hr/wk the last 2 years).

I am PO'. And my dog is sick so I've put out at least $350/month for the last 2 months on her.

Anyway, the point is, here I am posting from work where I'm doing an IV room graveyard shift. That takes a lack of sanity to commit to with less than 4 hours notice. I told them they better mention this in LoRs!

but seriously. so broke. How do people afford 4th year? Even more loans?

Dang..you're a trooper. Every DOPs dream come true.

I've never had a conversation with our DoP in the 2.5 years I've been there. More like an inpatient supervisor's wet dream.

It was pretty dang slow. Like they might have been able to do without anyone in the IV room. I was done all of my scheduled LVPs through 10am by 1am. Other than that I think I made 3 or 4 actually important bags during the shift. But hey, if you want to pay me +26% to play on the interwebs and read, go for it.

Yes. Or spouses.

so true. I guess I need to get over being too proud to take money from the parental units. It was probably stupid of me to decline tuition help for the last 2 years. Since I don't see a spouse any time soon (and the only prospect is 3 years behind me in school so he's no help!) I may have to do that.

There is nothing worse than those little statements from the student loan companies that show how much interest you've accrued.

You gotta be chiting me..

I say hi to him in the stairwell, etc. But I've never actually talked with him. He doesn't talk to anyone in the dept as far as I can tell. I'm relatively certain that he doesn't know my name - he might be able to pick me out of a lineup.

we're our own dysfunctional family I guess.

Seriously?!? Wow...What does he do just sit in the office with the door closed? Can't believe DOP could be that clueless about personnel!

I'm not sure. The door isn't closed but there's never any reason to go bug him. We have the inpatient supervisors, the clinical coordinator, and the operations dude.

I've talked to DoPs more on rotations than I have at my own hospital!

Heh, I was going to say...I've had more contact with DOPs that I worked with for just a few weeks on rotations. And still keep in touch with a few of them after 2 years!

Wonder how he can even get a feel of what's going on in his pharmacy if he's never even had a conversation with you all...

I believe you hit the nail on the head... 😎

Oh well. Ever notice how sometimes it's an equally good learning experience to see how we should not do things? That way you can tell yourself you won't make the same mistake when you're in a similar situation.

I say that all the time. Rotations have been more for confirming what I don't want to do than discovering what I do want to do.

There and good and bad examples everywhere, and you should pay attention to both.

I used to never talk to anyone when I was a DOP. I would come in late..nod at people...then sit in my office with my door locked. Then I would leave early without saying anything to anyone. I liked it that way...no one bothered me.

Sure can. I'll PM it to you when I'm done. It's on Nov.12th so might be a few days yet.
Ok, thanks.
Caffeine on the other hand is a god-send and definitely wakes up your neurons.
But sometimes when I drink a cup of coffee I fall asleep, why??😕😡

I think there's an important distinction in caffeine use in sleep deprivation vs caffeine use in a rested individual.

If someone is severely sleep deprived (not uncommon during exams), e.g. losing over 2 hours per night of typical sleep time, often coffee will have a very negligible effect - but that's to be expected. If you want to feel alert, you need to get back to baseline sleep levels.

If you get your normal amount of sleep and take the same amount of coffee, the effect is much more noticeable.

This is from Requiem et al., Journal of Anecdotal Evidence 2008. N=~25.

Yeah, that's probably it. I feel tired and sleepy, but still have work to do, so I go get a cup of coffee. Fall asleep after I'm done with the coffee. 😛
