Hey guys:

I just wanna see if any of the academic or private practice guys are using the long acting bupivacaine for nerve blocks yet? I met with the rep, but she had no literature available in regards to its safety or dosing for peripheral nerve blocks.

It seems like the drug has the potential to replace indwelling catheters.

Thanks,
Secoy

Spoz to be available this month. Has been studied for hemorrhoids and bunions. Not yet "approved" for PNB. Some investigators are going to start trials. I agree on potential and am hoping to do some studies with it myself. I called the company people last month and it's spoz to deliver soon.

BLADE:

How much decadron are you adding to bupi, and how much longer are your blocks lasting? I have only been using ropivacaine 0.5% w/o additives and find the typical duration to be 14-24hrs. Our bupi availablity has been intermittant b/c of national shortages.

thanks,
secoy

4mg of Decadron added to 0.5% Rop gives a post op pain block of 24-27 hours

4mg of Decadron added to 0.5% Bup gives a post op pain block of 24-30 hours

(Those are my results so far)
