I am currently debating whether to switch my MCAT date to July 30th. (from July 16th)

After I get my primary verified (between August 1-30th), I will submit the secondary application with a new MCAT score in early September.

I have been reading many threads about significant influence on timing of the application.
From your previous experiences, could you let me know if this is too late?

My secondary application will be submitted either in mid-August -- in case I stick with July 16th, or early in September.
If it doest not make much difference (in terms of timing of the application to the point when it becomes detrimentally too late), I will switch it to July 30th.
(Though 15 days may not seem much, it is important to me)
(And I double checked that there are some rooms available for July 30th on the MCAT registration website)

For your information,
My overall GPA is 3.60 (sGPA is 3.61)

This will be my third time writing the MCAT.
Aug 15 / 2008: Verbal Reasoning (04), Phy Sci (10), Essay (N), Bio Sci (10) total: 24N
Sept 15/ 2009: Verbal Reasoning (07), Phy Sci (10), Essay (Q), Bio Sci (11) total: 28Q

Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated..!

Thanks in advance.

It'll be late though. A good portion of people will have everything done by mid-end of July.

I wouldn't risk applying early and not doing well on the MCAT for the third time. You already took it twice before and addcomms will want to see that you increased your score substantially in the third. Although your PS and BS is really good, you might want to delay the test date, rock that verbal section and then submit your secondaries.

I submitted my secondaries between late Aug and early Sept. While things would have been better had I applied earlier, I have to admit the application was overall very successful. It all depends on how you define "late." Just make sure you have ALL you application materials in by said time. LORs can sometimes be a major holdup so try to take care of that asap.

That's too late due. Me and my friend had smae stats' but she decided to apply after her second MCAT scores came in. She actually did better than me on her second MCAt, but did not get accepted anywhere and is now taking a year off. I on the other hand got in because I got everything done by mid July. Just apply, you can send in your scores later.

Thank you for your advice..

I applied last year but the admin comm put my file on hold until they received my new MCAT score even though I had an old MCAT score.

So, my understanding is that no matter how fast I get everything done (both primary and secondary), my application would not get fully reviewed until new MCAT score is released. (unless I decide to use the old MCAT scores which I do not think it'll work)

Do you have any thoughts on this matter?

Your time-line really helps me to see how my application would proceed throughout this year.
I will do my best to get everything done by said time.

Thank you so much for your advice! 👍

I agree.

What I did, and I think is reasonable and worked out:

Took the MCAT when I felt comfortable taking it (mid-July).

Submitted my AMCAS directly after. Because I didn't have my scores I applied broadly, around 30 schools.

Some schools will immediately send you their secondaries---I applied to some of these without my scores, around early August.

When I got my score back, I narrowed my school choices to 17 and got all my secondaries in by the first week of Sept.

Had 10 interview offers, ranging from mid Sept (state school) to March--with the majority being in December.

Point is---complete AMCAS and some secondaries before you receive your score back.

Good luck,
Conrad

Thanks for your advice. It really helps me setting a time-line for the application process.

Would you mind if you can share your stats? (i.e. GPA & MCAT scores?)

When were your secondary apps considered "complete"? I am also thinking about submitting the majority of my secondaries early September, but I heard it usually takes about 2-3 weeks for them to be considered complete. Is that true? If so, I'm a bit worried I won't get any interviews before December...
