can someone provide statistics/evidence pr a very thorough explanation of why applying early is an advantage in terms of receiving interviews? jw

Applying early is advantageous. But people mistake "applying early" for "OMGZ I HAVE TO BE FIRST BATCH OR I'm RUINED!!".

Every dental school will tell you to apply early because most of them have a rolling admissions. You should apply early to get your application to them as early as possible but "early" means basically try to apply before august

+1 to what both said above me.

All health schools are rolling admissions - the earlier you get your application in, the earlier they start looking at your app and start considering you for let's say a 100 invites. Once interviews start going on and seats start filling up and you're just sending in your application let's say in September, you're going to be considered for like 50 interviews. By the time you're through with your interviews, the 40 seats originally available will be filled up with applicants who interviewed before you and rocked it. Obviously, you're going to have a tougher time getting in. Not to mention that people who get their applications in early are those who are really eager to get into dental school and may have really good statistics. The admins might also wonder why in the world you're submitting your application so late - if you're so passionate about getting into dental school, why not be proactive and get things done in a more timely manner?

As Dgeorg6 said, though, early does NOT mean turning in your application the day the application portal opens or not even being in the first, second, or third batch. I think people confuse SDN Early with "Early" where the first means "OMG FIRST BATCH OMG FIRST BATCH" v the latter "Get it in before August"

Dean/directors of admissions would like nothing better than to receive their 4k+ application on day 1 of the application cycle, not because they "have rolling admission". but because it simplifies their task and obviates the need to look for "late" applicants that are diamonds in the rough.

Something to remember as well is that it takes some time for AADSAS to get your GPA and everything verified before they sent your app to schools. So getting your application completed by august isn't bad, but submitting your app and still having to wait the 4-6 weeks for everything to process is what will hold you up.

My applications are being sent out by AADSAS today and I called a few schools since my new DAT score hasn't updated yet. I asked them about when they start looking at applications and they said the end of July. They won't really look at anything until then. a few schools that said this were Creighton, Case Western, Midwestern, U of Louisville.

Case Weatern? If you look at last year's interview/acceptance thread, people were getting interviews from Case Western on the 10th of July...which means they DO review applications early July or maybe even right now at this moment who knows.

GOOD CATCH! I actually meant to write OHSU not Case Western, they were right next to one another on my paper I was taking notes on.
