is applying to 17 schools pushing it?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
17 is how many I'm applying to and I don't think it's really that much. I would say that if you have average stats, then you should apply to 15 or more. Whether you want to cut down some is up to you.

No one knows your position better than yourself. Do what you feel will give you the best chance at getting accepted.

I could reduce my number to 15-16, but I'm not sure if it makes a grand difference either way or which way i should lean.

The average is 13 or 14 IIRC, and that includes lots of people who only apply to a couple of schools, and then a crap ton of folks who apply to 30+.

I think it's a good number of schools, especially if you have average stats.

The number one reason people do not gain acceptance into medical school is overestimation of their competitiveness within the pool of applicants to the schools to which they have applied. Apply to 14 or 15 and wind up with no acceptances, you reapply or do something else besides medicine. If you can afford the fees, apply to the maximum number of schools that you can as you can statistically improve your chances. Of course, you can apply to every school and not get in.

I'm applying to 35 (MD+DO) but feel foolish now due to underestimated how much the secondaries would cost me. I'm probably going to have withdraw/not complete a few secondaries. Oh well.

17 is right around average. Tons of people apply to 20+.

awesome, im actually above average in something medical school related 😀
