I recently heard a rumor that BMC is trying to change to a 1-4 as opposed to a 2-4. Is there any truth to this rumor? If so will it affect this application cycle? Any information is much appreciated. If you have information that is not ready to be made public please PM me.

I hope not, as they 'guarantee' a prelim med spot if you choose not to do a TY elsewhere. This affords a lot of flexibility as to where you can do your intern year, and without the risks of other 2-4s that don't guarantee you prelim spot if you fail to match into one.

i doubt they're switching, the PD was pretty adament that they advocated the 1+3 format during my month there & during my interview last year. i'd be really surprised if they switched anytime soon. they seem to do just fine every year getting a very good bunch of residents every year "despite" the format.

BMC has changed to a 1-4 format, made official by the RRC last week. I know this since I'm one of the residents there.

Also, check out our new program website: http://www.ed.bmc.org/ (May not reflect the change in program format just yet.)

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Thanks for the info. Also, the new website looks great! I hope you guys will update it soon with the new curriculum.

so this applies to people applying for the '09-'10 cycle or will people applying now be able to enter as PGY-1s?

The change is effective for this application cycle. If you apply this year and are accepted, you will be entering the 1-4 format starting July '09.
