Hi, I am interviewing in a few days, and I went through so much trouble getting a good CHEAP suit. However, it is brown, dark brown...like dudu (or poop) brown. Not many people think it is appropriate, because ...my skin is brown and yada yada...what do you guys think. I need help. :scared:

My skin is brown (with yellow hughes...i'm mixed, half black half white, sometimes i feel like a simpson), and i have a brown suit and an olive-green suit. I have acceptances from a school at which i wore a brown suit, and one from the green suit. I think as long as you're comfortable and look professional brown is totally fine. Plus, to be girly for a second, there are so many more cute purse options with brown!

My interview suit is brown as well, and I have an olive green laptop bag to carry things around in. Nothing wrong with wearing brown, so long as you look professional, and laptop bags seem to work nicely if you're female.

Good luck at your interview🙂

I'm going with a medium grey suit- I have a black one, but I loooove the grey suit and I'll look less like I'm attending a funeral walking around campus...

For a female...
Is a knee-length shirt-suit with high heels appropriate? or too sexy?

as long as it's not above the knees; your kneecaps should be covered, for professional i think, and make sure it doesn't have a slit too long, because i've seen girls with slits in their suit skirts that are wayyyyyy too high. but otherwise at the knees should be fine, make sure to wear stockings/nylons/whatever you call them.

to the OP yes, i have kinda a leather portfolio/folder that i carry, it's black with my undergrad logo in gold on the front fairly small, and i carry a black purse with the green suit and usually a brown purse with the brown suit that matches perfectly, but i also carry the black one occassionallyl cuz it matches the portfolio and shoes...i love having options haha. Luckily i got enough interviews that it made at least two suits reasonable to buy.

I'm a guy and my suit's coffee bean brown. It wasn't cheap either. Woe is I.

purse + portfolio....hmm interesting. Is the portfolio kept inside the purse?

nahh it's a little purse, just cell phone, car keys, wallet, lip gloss, the necessities. my portfolio is small, really just a leather folder.

I think bringing either a portfolio or a bag/purse is good, but don't bring both, you just end up looking like you have too much clutter. Plus with the folders you get at each school, you'll never be walking around empty handed anyway. In my experience thus far, most girls carry medium sized purses that are of a conservative and matching color. Large enough to put folded pieces of papers and notepads inside, but small enough so they don't look like duffle bags on your shoulders. I felt that laptop bags/briefcases looked a little over the top for the interviews, as you really won't ever be pulling anything out from them during an interview.

i really hope med schools don't accept you based on the color of your suit. i mean, really.
