Hi,

I have some brs book (path, physio, etc) and that all seem decently written. however, books like brs path and physio get really high ratings while the rest like brs neuroantomy get lackluster ratings while hy neuro get high ratings. i think it's not really how well they're written, but how much they're covered on the usmles.....

If you'll notice, BRS=Board review Series... yes, they are good because they cover what's on the boards, that's what they're designed for. Thereofre, they are good "cuz path is a major topic on usmle."

I don't really know why I am replying to this post because I don't understand what you're asking.

It's rated high because it's a good book not because path is so heavy on the boards.

Books like H-Y Neuroanatomy are rated high because it covers a lower yield subject such as neurscience in a clear but succinct manner, whereas something like BRS Neuroanatomy covers more than you probably need for the boards.

If it was all about the relative content of each subject on the boards and not how well written the book it then something like BRS or H-Y Behavioral Science wouldn't be getting an A in First Aid because behavioral sciences is not a big percentage of the test.

I think BRS path is great because it presents pathology at exactly the right depth for step 1. Conversely, you'd be crazy to use BRS gross anatomy for step 1. BRS physio and behavioral are also excellent, by the way.

I have also wondered about why there are such low-yield BRS books, when they set the standard in other subjects.

Oh well.
