I'm taking physio next semester and I was wondering if brs is really a must. I'm cofused about getting it cause I'd like to get guyton (the huge book) instead but I'm not so sure about how helpful this would be. Should I get both? or guyton and hall and brs? I want to get the most advantage of the book(s) I get I just don't know which is better. What about boron and brs? is brs itself helpful enough for a physio course? what about guyton itself? boron itself? guyton and hall?

I'd only get the BRS, but I'm pretty firecely against texts of any kind. I find them a huge waste of time. If you're going to buy one, though, Guyton and Hall is a good one to choose.

just to clarify.. it's recommended to use BRS to study as you go along with your classes? I start physio next week also so I'm wondering if I should get BRS.. I'm a non-textbook, notes-only person also btw in case that matters.

I read along in the BRS as class went, and it covered everything nicely. I occasionally abandoned it for the abbreviated notes our professors published, but it's an excellent review of key concepts for class in addition to the best way to study for the shelf.

They also publish a little companion to Guyton & Hall that's like a collection of notes - better than the textbook, in a lot of ways. Also, there's bound to be stuff on your physio exams that are not in BRS but would be in the pocket G&H. That said, I always look at what's in BRS as I study so I can choose what to really learn and what to memorize in the short term.

The pocket G&H:

can someone post the link to the brs book you guys are talking about? our currioculum is all integrated and we dont have a separate physio course, but they told us to get costanzo physio book

ar2388, here's a link to BRS Physio at Amazon:

I used Costanzo's textbook and BRS during my physio course and it worked really well. I tried to use Guyton's but it was too long-winded; it took way too long to read and ultimately, got to the same point Costanzo makes. Costanzo's texbook is great; it's short and to the point and all the explanations and figures are very well done, IMO.

I generally don't like textbooks, but I thought Costanzo was great. I used that along with BRS (which she wrote) as a quick review.

I feel that combo served me really well and I probably learned physio better than anything else in med school.

i only used brs for questions
the material in the book is more or less exactly what is in your handouts/notes

I like gyton and hall. its a great book, u cant learn physio just with the brs, at the end of the day u are going to treat patients so u better know ur physio well
