There's a spot on the application for awards. Can i put making the dean's list in this section?

I didn't. It's not very hard to get it and I don't think thats necessarily an award. They can see by looking at your transcript if you made deans list or not.

Of course list that, why wouldn't you? It can only help.

Anybody with a respectable GPA is on the deans list. It is not unique, individualized or proprietary.

If you have nothing else, then maybe put it on there. Even then i probably wouldn't, its assumed if you have a good GPA.

I'll chime in again regarding this thread.

I performed quite poor during my freshman and sophomore year. I never ironed out the wrinkles in my study plan, I went out on weeknights too often, and I focused too much on winning over my current fiancee (haha). After receiving the mediocre grades from my 4th semester, a light bulb went off in my head and I knew I needed to get my act together.

I worked my rear end off the next semester and was ultimately rewarded with the highest college GPA I had earned thus far. A week or two later, I received a dean's list honor in the mail and could not have been more proud of myself.

I am proud of my dean's list achievement, and I proudly included in the awards section of my application. Adcoms may disregard it, but it means a lot to me, and there is no way the inclusion of it under your Awards section will negatively affect your application.

I believe it's an Award!! I was on Dean list on both schools 🙂 and planning to add them. if i was you I will enter it in award section if there is nothing else you can add. At least its something

It's perfect... for those who've never won an award.

Stay thirsty my friends.

Pretty sure its on their example application as an award, someone might have said this but.....

I agree... If you have 5 better ones than the Dean's List, then... put those instead.

It's something you can put on there if you have nothing else. If you have something else that required you to apply for or nominated for, put that one on instead. Make sure you fill in every award spot because they like to use it as a talking point at the interview.

Throw it on. I did, along with my other awards. They aren't going to reject you because you put it on there I promise.

But it doesn't mean they are going to accept you. If you have better stuff, use it. You want to stick out, not blend in.

Is there any way to prove reality of award? like I got scholarship awards from colgate and coca cola award. But to be honest, I don't have the award letters anymore ( like 4-5 years ago), would they ask for prof of it?

But it wouldn't hurt to put it on. There is room for 5 so you can put the Dean's list AND obviously if you have better stuff put them on too.

I put it! People can say that deans list is easily obtained but then how come the majority of applicants do not have 3.8 GPA' then? what ever I think it's an award and an effing good one too! At UT I had to work my tail off for my dean's list. Own it.

Note I said 'along with my other awards'...because obviously if you have something better you would put it. And well duh, of course putting deans list on your application doesn't mean you will get accepted...

The awards section is not vital to any application and is just a cherry on top if anything (like research or something).

Like others have said, this section isn't going to make or break your application. In my case, I had poorer grades earlier in college, but achieved as 3.9 GPA over my last 5 semesters. I absolutely wanted to emphasize that I was on the Dean's List during that time, as my overall GPA would not indicate that on its own.

I am wondering what type of Awards I might go after and how to obtain/find/apply for them?

I put the Dean's list on my application.
