Just curious.

4 week required rotation in 4th year (also available as elective time in 3rd/4th year)

4 week required rotation fourth year. Apparently they made this a requirement a few years ago because 90% of 4th years were taking it as an elective anyway.

There was no EM elective available for my class (co 09 M3s) because the person who organized it left a year or two ago. There's a peds ER option during peds for a select few. It's always been an elective for M4s. Next year it'll be available as an elective for M3s.

I don't think I'd like for it to be a requirement. We have so many other required things 4th year, it's really annoying.

Also a required 4-week block of MSIV year. And a requirement of my PGY-1 year.

Having done both, I found it pretty useless.

No. Our only required 4th year rotations are rural and ambulatory. 3rd year is the usual plus neuro and geriatrics. You have to do it as an elective or selective if you want to. I'm not particularly interested in EM, so I'm glad.

4 weeks during 3rd year - I think we're the only ones who do it then. It was good though, like a mini medicine review and really easy shift work - plus no shelf
