ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) is a surgical and medical subspecialty in much the same vein as urology, and as follows, the true name of ENT is Otolaryngology. Both specialties treat their respective systems with medical and surgical therapies: urologists treating the urologic system and otolaryngologists treating pretty much everything manifesting above the collar bones and and below the skull base (e.g. Meniere's Disease, Thyroid Cancer, and the procedure that keeps them in style--the tonsilectomy).
They generally refer to themselves as ENT surgeons because laypeople stare blankly at the word otolaryngologist.
