Is FA sufficient for the COMLEX bugs?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just took it today, and no. I had more obscure bugs/fungi/parasites than I did bread and butter micro by far.

Also I'm not sure the deal on DOs trying to corner the market on Bioterrorism but there was a stupid amount of this as well.

Ugh, and I was hoping parasites and fungi would be comparatively low-yield. Would you say the bioterrorism chapter at the end of Ridiculously Simple is sufficient?

For the USMLE, sure it is low yield but since most of what they want to ask is barely mentioned in First Aid I think this is another way the test takers "set us apart" from our MD counterparts.

Not sure about micro made ricidulous, I never opened anything but FA. Botulism, Ricin, Variola, ANTHRAX, is enough to get your through. Luckily my micro background was strong enough pull me through most of the BS portions of micro on this test.

any recommendations on how to prepare then? is there some sort of god chart of pathogens [bac, parasites, fungi...]

Sounds good. CMMRS covers all of those but ricin. Thanks and congrats 👍

there are lots of comments on sdn about obscure pathogens being on the comlex. is studying the micro chapter in fa+practice questions enough?

There is no good way to prepare for the WTF bugs that will be thrown at you on Level 1. Just know the most common bugs in FA and you should be fine. Pay special attention to parasites, fungi/yeast, etc. and that should get the majority of the WTF questions.

should we spend some time on bioterrorism micro?
If you are concerned and have a copy of Clinical Micro Made Ridiculously Simple available to you, just read the bioterrorism section once. That should do it.

I haven't taken the real COMLEX yet, but from what I can tell on the 2 COMSAE's I have taken, you really have to have a good grasp on the 2 flowchart algorithms in First Aid to be able to tackle a few questions ( I mean really memorize it cold).

It's a bit difficult at first, but its just one of those thins u want to draw out repeatedly. It's one of the things in addition to viscerosomatics, that you just have to senselessely memorize.
