I'm aware that dental schools have a laptop requirement.

Some have said not to get a 64-bit operating system because some it might not be compatible with some functions carried out during dental schools .

I was wondering if this is really that big of a deal (like do dental students have to use certain software that isn't mainstream?)

I'm getting a new laptop and I really wanted it to get a 64-bit windows laptop, but if it will hurt me down the road, then I better be safe and get the 32-bit.

I would be safe and get the 32-bit processor. But, I have to ask why you want a 64-bit processor? They aren't really mainstream yet -- are there certain programs that you want to run? If so, which ones?

If you want to get a 64-bit processor for the "cool factor", I say save your money! You're going to be spending enough money on your education.

I've been having my eye on the HP dv7-1232nr. The two main reasons is that there have been good deals on it as of late and it has a 17'' monitor and it has 1918MB toward graphics. I want lots of graphic memory so I won't have anys problem running dual monitors.

do you have to run special software programs in dental school?

I have a 64x OS... and i hate it! 3D tooth atlas doesn't work on it... and now I can't sync my palm treo to the phone. They have no plans on creating software that will work with the 64x os.

There are other problems with microsoft products also.

I would also suggest to keep it safe, get the 32x OS. I wish i never made the mistake of getting a 64x os.

Hey Bizznet,
there is a patch for 64bit windows on this website http://ehuman.com/support/downloads

definitely bad if you are planning on using MS OneNote
you cant bring lectures in ppt or pdf format to onenote
and like someone mentioned above you will have a problem loading tooth atlas too
i bought my tablet with 64bit vista cuz i got 4gb ram
and i recently formatted the harddrive to install 32bit vista for above reasons and i feel that this thing is running faster
