Is intro psychology enough for MCAT?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Without a syllabus it is hard to say but it will certainly help. That being said, the PS section of the MCAT is the only section that once can do well without taking the prerequisite courses.

I'm not entirely sure how your school's intro psych class is structured, but mine dipped sort of broadly into the content the MCAT tests on. Just because I really liked psychology, I took Developmental Psychology, Biological Psychology, Personality Psychology, and Clinical Psychology, which went into a nice depth of the content MCAT tests on. It definitely helped because I ended up with a 132 on Behavioral Sciences. But you definitely don't have to take all those psych classes to do well! I would suggest you take a look at your Psych course's syllabus and then compare to what the MCAT tests on (found on AMCAS) and see what differs. The Behavioral Sciences also covers sociology, which is not taught in the typical intro psych course.

Hey, not an OP but had a follow-up question. I'm a psych minor and have two years to take whichever psych courses I'd like. Which of the psych courses that you took helped you most on the MCAT? I've taken Gen Psych and Abnormal Psych and will be taking Biological Psych next semester. 🙂 Any recommendations for future courses would be great!

Took AP Psych in high school, never took it in college, got a 131. Intro psych should be plenty.

If your school offers it, Developmental Psychology was pretty useful for drilling in Piaget and whatnot. Clinical Psych (not sure if different than Abnormal Psych) was also pretty good. With what you took already, it should be more than enough. In addition, I think there's like this 100 page or 300 page Khan Academy doc floating out there that is really useful for MCAT.

It really depends on your school. My intro psych and sociology courses did not cover MCAT psych and sociology well. Psych ended up being okay because I took upper level courses, if I were you I would cross reference your class syllabus with the MCAT psych topics to see if there is anything missing.

Yup, one psych class, one soc class, & maybe most importantly the khan academy word doc(s) are sufficient in my experience.
