Is it a good idea to take 100 level science/math courses to raise my science GPA?

I'm going to be a senior in college, and my science GPA could definitely be higher. Will the admission counsel look down upon me taking 100 level science and math courses? If I should keep it at the 200 or 300 level, have any of you had experience with MATH 240- Discrete Mathematics?

I highly doubt that Discrete Mathematics is easy way to raise your GPA, at my school it is 3000 (UL) level class. If you are a senior and already took bunch of science classes you will probably not be able to raise significantly by 2-3 classes. What is you sGPA?

If you are early in your college career, do it. If you are late in your college career, little clusters of 100 level classes in Junior and Senior year will seem suspicious,

What good will it do you in med school if you can't handle the rigorous curriculum because you babied your GPA with less challenging courses??????

Why does it have to be math? Just take a non-science major science course on nutrition or some ****. At least you can pass that off as taking something for interest.

Surely no adcom would ever be able to see right through that /s - Consider why you struggled or didn't do as well as you would have liked to help you tackle level-appropriate science courses. Perhaps start with something easier (like nutrition instead of physics or O chem)

Discrete Mathematics is one of the most notoriously difficult undergraduate math courses. It's usually taken by computer science majors.

I cannot fathom why you would do that to yourself.

And more on topic with the rest of the thread, I probably wouldn't. This is commonly known as "GPA padding" and is almost universally frowned upon.

I have 2 quarters where I was taking only 10-12 credits for classes and 4-6 of research. Is that GPA packing? Everything recently is a 4.0 regardless of how many classes I was taking, but will that be frowned upon?

Not at all.

People who take s*** like "Earthquakes and Volcanoes" online or have ten Ws (without other explanation) are GPA padding.

EDIT: Ten Ws is more commonly referred to as GPA protection on here, but you get the point 😉

I would so take an earthquakes and volcanoes class though.

My thoughts exactly, but unfortunately, I'm a fish trying to climb a tree if you know what I mean
