Is it a good time to change practice venues, especially to private practice?

Hi,

Well with all the hospitals closing down and the economic situation, what do you guys think about now being a bad time to switch from a quasi-academic job to a private practice job?

I have a good offer and considering it, but I'm feeling a bit nervous because of the overall trend of decreasing surgeries, uncertainty as to how Bam's plan is going to work out, etc.

Should I just stay put at my salaried job for now? What do you think?

A year ago I had some indigestion about my military commitment keeping me out of the $400K+ job hunt. I still have some indigestion, but nothing the occasional 30 mL of Bicitra can't handle.

Stay put. Volume and revenue go down, and so do you. I woulnd't want to be in a partnership track nowadays.

why would you not want to be in a partnership track these days?

The current market makes non partners very expendable. I'll rather be an employee and get market compensation, while there is a market that is.

I would not enter private practice now if you have a stable gig. Community hospitals will struggle even more in the coming months/years. I would say the best place to be right now would be the VA. The economy should have little impact on the VA.
