I am tentatively planning to take Kaplan janury-april and take the mid may MCATs. Is it common to decide to post-pone the mcat in may, if my practice scores are not high enough or I am not yet confident enough that I will score well? Is it a waste to pay for this Kaplan session (Jan- April) if I'm not fully sure I'll take the MCAT in May? I'd probably take it that summer if I decided not to take it in May...

a lil anxious??? your possible test is nearly a year away.

to answer you question, people change their test dates all the time. my friend was scheduled to take it may 27th with me and deicded to push back til june 13th. its not a big deal.

if your practice scores are not high enough and you are worried you wont do well enough, then yes you should postpone it. if the kaplan test is going to be a waste, it will be a waste no matter when you take your test, whether it be May or June or July. Take the test if you are planning on taking it in May. You aren't going to forget everything you learned in the Kaplan class just b/c you postponed your test 2 weeks. you will also have access to all of the materials.

before you start worrying about rescheduling b/c your practice tests are too low, maybe you should start studying and take a practice test? no need to worry about things like that, its unnecessary.

agreed, its much too early to be worrying about that.

but, my own personal experience was that i tentatively planned (but didnt register) for the end of may. about 6 weeks before, i decided june would be better and registered for the june exam. then, at the end of may, i didnt think my verbal scores were high enough so i decided i would give it one more week, ad if it didnt improve to an acceptable level, reschedule. luckily, it did, so i didnt need to. but its much better (imo) to change your test date than to write it when youre not ready and then have to do it twice.

Sure, it is possible. If you aren't ready for the test, why take it when you don't have the an official deadline to complete it.

That being said, you are a year away from the exam. Take the course when you feel you are ready to put in the effort, and don't worry about whether you are ready or not until you actually have prepared and are getting closer to the date.
