Since I am a new grad CVS has put me in the overnight shift. I was wondering usually how long I would have to work overnight before I can get switched to day time hours.

My DM was a bit vague in answering this question. Does anyone have any advice on how I can go about switching or finding/asking to be switched from one location to another or more importantly from overnight to daytime? (im just worried because Im going to be working overnight in not too safe of an area and I am a female)

I understand im the new grad student and am willing to pay my dues i guess and work overnight, but around when is it appropriate to start asking to be switched.

Additionally, is it hard to switch from one retail chain from another? thanks for all the advice.

I don't work for CVS but I'm pretty sure its going to vary depending on your market and how soon positions come available. You really need to ask your DM for a more direct answer to your question.

Are u a floater? Some floaters tell me that they get whatever hours they get from the scheduler.

I would say one year...

It's all relative. It really depends on the situation. One thing that would definately hinder it is the fact that you work overnights n want to switch to days. Overnights are generally undesirable and most people don't want it, so it would be difficult for a DM to find someone else to switch with you. So you might be there longer than u anticipated.

Your best bet is to perform well and have your PIC put in a good word for you to the DM. THen the DM would be more likely to bring you to days. Alot of overnights get used to working at a slower pace and have a prob switching to days.

I would agree with this. And for a lot of jobs it is harder to go from nights to days and there is a pay cut as well. My girlfriend does a call center night shift and she got moved to days. She was upset because now she had to do more work for less pay and she didn't have the ability to do anything during the day and when she got out of work everything was basically closed.

If you have a family that could be one thing but keep in mind going to days isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Also, do you have a 7 on 7 off shift? I think that could add a little to the stress because there is no consistency. By the time my 7 days off are done I no longer feel like going back to work, which would be a serious pain to me...
