Is it improper to use the school's abbreviation in supplemental essays?

Hi all!

Quick question on this:

Would it be fine to use the school's abbreviation in my supplemental? It is kind of a longer name, and with only 1500 characters, I don't want to waste any valuable space.

Suggestions?

I think you should use the full name when you first use it, but abbreviate it after that.
