I'm planning on applying to 6 schools within a week, and here's the list: NYU, stony brook, buffalo, columbia, UMDNJ, BU.

My gpa is 3.7/3.6 (s/o) and 21 TS 22 AA 22 PAT. I'm more than happy to go to NYU if that's the only school I get in, even over buffalo or BU most likely.

I know I'm not in the first batch or even fifth probably so it's not the best situation, but i think there's a good chance I'll get into NYU or buffalo.
Even my advisor was telling me to apply to at least 10 schools so I'm just wondering if there's any reason why I should be applying to that many, when it costs couple of hundred bucks to apply for each one.

Your stats are pretty good so I think you will definitely get some interviews as long as your applying to schools with average stats below or the same as yours. My stats are lower than yours and Im applying to 11. They say the average is 10 but if you are applying to schools within reach I think 6 should be fine. I mean save money where ya can, ya know! Goodluck! Btw your still considered applying early!

It's really dependent on your risk tolerance level. Judging from your stats, applying to 10+ may not be necessary, just encouraged if you're really anxious about getting in this year.

Well I'm somewhat anxious to get in this year but I feel like if I don't get into schools such as NYU and BU which are big private schools, where else would I have chances against? It'd be pointless to apply to places like UPenn or maryland, especially since those schools are harder to get in in general and I don't want to preferably go there either.

With your stats you could get into plenty of schools. You've got some wiggle room.

Thanks for the encouraging words lol I sure hope to get into somewhere

You have penn caliber scores.

Can't tell if fishing for compliments or genuinely concerned..

Relax! You're in!

I'm lacking in extra curricular, barely have any on campus activities and no research. I did shadowing and tutoring and stuff but don't feel like it's very competitive.

Relax!! You will definitely get interviews somewhere 🙂

Your scores are great. Basically if your confident enough go with the number of schools you are applying to.

But it doesnt hurt to apply to 10+. In my first cycle I applied to 8 only got 2 interviews. Second time I applied to 15 and got in.

So my advice is apply to the 10+ schools and get in then you'll just take the money hit now, which will be cheaper than re-applying all over again the following year.
