Is it OK to call and ask for an interview, if you are going to be close by then?

I got an invite at COMP, i want to call TUCOM-CA, and tell them that i will be in CA then and can i please come by for an interview, even though i wasnt yet invited, because it would save me some $$.

Anyone thinks that its bad and may actually HURT my app?

I did something similar at an allopathic school. I felt like you did, I was worried, but thought it was worth a risk. They agreed to interview me near the time I was going to be in town anyway.

I don't think it hurts to ask, as long as you make your interest clear and are professional.

I know many people have done it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It depends on the schools, but it's worth a try.
