I'm filling out my cornell secondary essay (the "why cornell" question)...is it o.k. to say some of the same exact things I said in my "why Yale" essay that I just submitted?

I know that admissions offices talk to each other...but do you think it would be a problem if I used the same opening paragraph in both of my secondary essays?

its fine. thats the only way to survive them secondaries. reuse, recycle...

g'dluck.

Cmon man, relax a little. YES, it is okay to reproduce essays for different secondaries. The whole "ADCOMs talk" concern is a little overhyped, and I'd say you'd be struck by lightning before you get burnt for reusing the paragraph. There are wayyyyyyyyyyy too many applications to check secondary essays with every other top tier school, if they even care in the first place.

thanks for the reassurance mmz6...as long as I know other people are doing it (or have done it on some), it makes me feel better when I copy, paste, cut....i was just worry b/c I said some really distinctive things in my opening paragraphs that (hopefully) would be memorable if anyone read it.

I guess ur right I do need to chill....I just wish every school could just take my friggin $ and read my AMCAS statement.......w/ the why yale/ why Cornell questions I really wanted to just write "why the hell wouldn't I want to go to your school"....the carribbean schools are the only schools that should have to ask that question...

what if the secondary essay question is basically everything you covered in your AMCAS PS? Do you guys just embellish your AMCAS PS? fix all those grammar and spelling mistakes now and just incorporate in why School X with some additional blah?

Haha. Yeah, some of these secondaries are driving home the point that I did a really good job with my personal statement. I tried really frickin' hard to incorporate all that is unique and special about me and my experiences so it's annoying to dig around more. 🙂

Sure it is. I have like 3-4 "generic" ones that I have used. Sometimes I have to be creative and combine essays. 🙂

if only more US allopathic schools could offer 70 degrees year round, and classes overlooking white sandy beaches, with clear blue water. i've heard that yale isn't like that, i could be wrong though.

why carribean? there are some good reasons out there, off the top of my head:

1. because I can
2. because I have to
3. weather
4. never went on spring break
5. im addicted to quinone

Just make sure that when you cut and paste, you change all references to school X into references to school Y...

just think how funny it would look if you copied and pasted from your Yale application into your cornell application and you said...

(cornell application)
I really want to go to Yale because...

😀

I almost did that in my undergrad application essays 🙂. I had to check 3 times before sending them that I didn't make that mistake, I'm sure someone has. i bet adcoms laugh so hard when they see that  I just don't them laughing at my application lol
