Is it ok to write an e-mail to a program in addition to sending my ERAS application?

I applied to a program in another state (which tends not to take many outsiders for both medical school and residencies). I want to let them know that I am not just applying randomly. I lived in that state for 3 years prior to medical school and only left b/c I was not accepted to med school there. I really wish to return, however. I would think it is ok to write a brief e-mail stating this. Otherwise, I don't know if they will consider me for an interview. Am I right?

Seems like a good idea to me. Write away!

Hello

I guess if you are so interested you should express it. Maybe the PS would have been better, but I'd see no problem with a short e-mail to the program coordinator.
