and love every aspect of it but absolutely hate diagnostic rads? I'm asking this because I'm considering going into IR but the only thing holding me back from it is if I have to do diagnostic radiology as well at the same time as an attending. I know this varies between individuals but are there any IR-only practioners? I just hate the thought of sitting in a dark room with no patient contact whatsoever flipping through hundreds of images. I'm also dreading doing the 2-4 years of diagnostics before the IR fellowship (I know I can't match into the Independent IR Residency). If diagnostic radiology is unavoidable for most interventionalists, then I might have to seek other career opportunities.

What year are you? They're phasing out IR as a fellowship program and transitioning to direct IR residency...

Yet, even the direct IR curriculum is 70% DR for the first 3-4 yrs (this is a bit of a simplification, but whatever) and transitions to more and more IR procedural training.

MS3. I know about the direct IR residency but there are only a few programs right now and I'm pretty sure they're very competitive to get into. Anyways I can deal with DR in residency but I'm more concerned about stuff that an IR attending will do.
