Is it okay to talk about an obstacle/challenge from middle school in your secondaries?

So I was thinking of how to answer the adversity/obstacle secondary questions. We've all had problems. But it's hard to pick one out that will tell a story, demonstrate character, and ultimately show adcoms you have the potential to be a competent physician.

In any case, I'm thinking of going with an experience I had when I was in middle school. It's a story of immigration. Me coming from another country to the U.S. And how I learned to overcome the challenges I faced.

But, I'm worried this will be looked down upon since it's from such a long time ago. I know that ECs and other activities listed on the AMCAS should only be from when you were in college. Generally, I've been under the impression that adcoms don't care/get annoyed when people talk about things they did before college.

Does this rule also apply for life experiences? Or is it okay to talk about a challenge you had while an adolescent.

I think it's a great idea, especially since you seem to understand what message needs to come across in the secondary. This isn't an activity like "winning first place in the 6th grade science fair"...you immigrated! Definitely a big deal! Potential to discuss the importance of patience, perseverance, etc and cultural awareness as a physician.
