Is it poor form to decline an interview from an away?

You could make an argument for turning down an invite at an away if you weren't on the rotation (albeit a poor one), but how could you turn one down while there? Even if you rank it last, do you think being there would be worse than scrambling into IM or GS (No thanks)? Even if you have plenty of invites, it's a place that could pad your list with no extra effort or money. What's the worst that could happen? You eat a free dinner and make awkward small talk, watch a PowerPoint presentation, do a couple interviews, walk around the hospital, then see how quickly you can get out of a suit and into gym shorts an a tee shirt. You may get an interview question or technique you haven't had yet and it could help you on other interviews

It's a dinner and 6 hours of nodding and smiling. As Nike says, Just Do It!

Who said anything about my not wanting to end up at a place affecting performance? It's still a chance to practice emergency medicine and therefore is a very valuable proposition for me. i'm enjoying the rotation, I just don't think I would do so as a resident

I had an "away" that was less than appealing for some "dealbreaking" factors. Even that would have been better than a lifetime in IM or GS.

I knew I didn't want to match at my home program. I still interviewed there. I just didn't rank them.
