Is it possible for a combined MD/MBA at two different schools?

I have heard about this being done, but just wanted to know if somebody has actually gone through the process. None of my instate MD programs have a prestigious MBA program associate with it, so I'm trying to see if it's possible to go to an instate medical school, but go to Harvard/UPenn for a shortened MBA program. Basically, is it possible to follow Harvard's/UPenn's combined MD/MBA schedule, but only the MBA portion, since I'll be doing the MD portion at my instate school?

two questions:

1) what is the med school you'll be attending's policy re: allowing time off? My school will allow anyone a year off for just about any reason. There are a number of shortened B-School programs, just saw one for Kellogg (Northwestern) that would fit within this time frame.

2) how shortened is the Harvard/Wharton program? And have you spoken with them to know what they're looking for in a candidate? Acceptance to a top Bschool was very, very different from being accepted to a similarly ranked med school. Harvard's MBA app, for example, asked the candidate to describe an example of when the candidate had lead an organization through a major change. They assume a pretty high GMAT score, but are looking more for the candidate who's worked up to upper middle management and is looking to move into that executive role. Med schools are looking for MCAT scores/clinical experience/volunteer experiences, and maybe a few years of clinically oriented work experience. best of luck!

I have not emailed any schools yet, since I'm applying to medical school next year and I just wanted some general information on here. I was not planning to apply to any school's "regular" shortened program. I wanted to join ONLY the MBA part of the MD/MBA path that many students are doing...just didn't know if that was possible. By the time I get into medical school, I will have at least 3 years of experience as a pharmacist. I have some leadership positions on my resume and I also have my own non-profit organization that I started. If I score a 750is on the GMATs, I'll probably be a competitive candidate for the top 10, but I just wasn't sure if anybody could only do the MBA portion of the MD/MBA program and complete the MD part elsewhere.

I think all of these programs will require a lot of work since this is not the usual path that people take to get into their top mba program. If you know any updates, let me know. Thanks.
