Hello,

I am a Canadian who would like to explore the option of buying a home in US if I get into a US dental school. Is it possible to buy a home in US w/o US residency status? Do you know anyone who was able to buy a property w/o US residency? Thank you!

I know it is possible if you are a permanent resident of US of A.

Yes you can. My mom is Canadian and has lived and practiced in this country for over 30 years - she had purchased several homes/ condos on her own. She has a green card only - never became a citizen.

But I don't think that I will have a green card as a student in US. I think I will only have J-visa.

The answer is yes. I've seen some spoiled international students/foreign exchange students buy houses. They probably aren't citizens or permanent residents, but hold a student's visa. I'd say as long as you have the financial ability and good credit, then no problem. Only thing I can think of is that as a non-resident, you might get a higher mortage interest rate.

I'm pretty sure free enterprise means you don't have to be an American, have any type of residency card, or ever have stepped foot in America to own private property here. But getting a home loan (from a US bank) may be another question.

this is the united states. we'll always take your money. unless of course it's canadian money. then, we'll need even more money of it to justify it being canadian.

haa :laugh:haa a canadian currency joke. 👎 booo

FYI: check the exchange rate

and this comes from someone who wants to be a dentist...

hes kidding...its a horrible joke

just like saying canada is like a loft apartment above a really rocking party

its all fun and games

there is plenty to be said about the United States to

loosen up, if you get offended say something and i am sure it will stop

The only difference is that you're going to have a much much harder time getting a loan bc based on the country youre from, the bank or other lender may have a very difficult time coming after you if you cant pay your mortgage and decide to skip the country. If you have a large deposit and lots of cash or if you can get an international loan from your country of origin, theres no difference.
