Is it possible to do a william ether synthesis w/o an alcohol?

nope must be an alcohol. the NaH is used to form the alkoxide, which will eventually give u the ether.

H3C-CH3-C-CH3-O-Na+ + CH3Br ---->

That's the answer and it says to do a william ether synthesis, but how it is possible if CH3Br isn't an alcohol?
