Is it possible to gain residency?

I was just curious if there is a way to work the system. If you lets say have to move to Louisiana for dental school, after the first year can you claim residency in Louisiana and pay in state tuition?

Not sure what the law is in Louisiana, but every state does have a law pertaining to this. Virginia for example...If you start as out of state, you remain out of state. UNLV I believe does allow for residency status to change after the first year. I'm sure each school has their rules on their websites.
