Dear mdsordds,

Well your post is not very clear to me. Anyways I hope you understand that to apply for DDS in USA you must have atleast NBDE part 1 and many schools prefer part 2. You can register in a Masters program and side by side prepare for your boards. Its kind off difficult though and needs you to be much focused. Secondly most common Masters programs opted by foreign trained Dentists are masters of public health, masters of health administration, dental public health, masters in bio-material sciences and you might Google other masters courses related to dental field. As far as I understand any degree from US will definitely increases your chances to atleast get an interview invite for DDS program.
As you are in your home country you can improve your hand skills and try to get some good work experience before you go US. The best you can do prepare for your masters application first because that might also take 4-6 months process time, so plan accordingly. I hope I answered some of your queries.. Good luck !!!

thanks a lot for your reply..
i know my post has masters in it jus too many times..
what i wanted to knw is that , is DPH btr than doin MPH in epidemiology for a FTD..?
n while selecting a coll is it btr to go to a school which offers dentistry too..?
n the major question can a get enrolled in a post doctoral degree prgm without doing DDS ..??
i mean is it possible...???

ok 1st of all what is DPH???
second any masters degree in the states will not only hold value when you go for the interview but will also help you into conditioning yourself to answer the questions which will be asked...the way Amerricans think is quite different than back in India so you have to understand their take on how to work in a medical field..

Next a masters in a school which has an international dental program is always better because you do make contacts and it does help... that being said it is not a guarentee you will get admission in the dental program there...just some help.

Lastly you can definately do a residency ( masters ) degree int he states without a DDS but you will not have all the residencies as an option for instance you will not have ortho or surgery... but perio , prostho , endo , pedo are definate options..... what you have to do is have research under your belt and prove to them you are interested in that field....also if you do your masters you can practice general dentistry in a few states i think 14... without doing a DDS... but your credentials will be BDS

which is the best option...there is no answer you have to do research and find out, i was offered both i went with the DDS just because i want my basic degree from the states

It should be better to select a Masters program in a school having Dentistry, that way you can have some idea what are the common protocols of dental schools.....As I mentioned earlier any master program should be good as far as you can justify how that relates to you being a dentist.....
Yes you can enroll in post doc programs without being DDS, but I haven't inquired about that option so would not take a stand there........
Best !!!!!

Den 2012 ok thanks..

in that case a DPH is better than an MPH in terms of you still look dedicated to your field but check your options of jobs after that just with that fact incase you do not get into a dental program in 2 yrs you do want to stay in the country until you do

but dont u think if i deliberately choose a dental school for my masters say in epidemiology..??
the chances of visa rejection would be higher ..???. n also i have my brother who s working back in the states .. ???
on researching DrPH is there which can be done only after MPH
n dental public health is considered as a speciality degree ... requires NBDE..

DPH is definaltely a speciality and will i think should recquire NBDE but im not 100% sure... as for visa rejection, they can reject based on a billion other issues if your dream is to come here just go ahead and do not think so much...at the interview just look like a confident person that is all they want
