Is it possible to self study this course using this book?

I want to self study biology, general chemistry, and ochem (mastering each subj b4 I step up to ochem). Is this possible?

Organic Chemistry- I have the Organic Chemistry Book by McCurry 7th edition along w/ the solutions manual= got it from bro

I have the 7th edition of Campbells (really old book of cousin's) + Chemistry The Central Science 10th (bought from a college friend who finished his prereqs)

Personally, I do not learn much from lecture, but rather use it for review. I think it is quite possible to learn each subject by yourself (if you have the time). Im the type of student that didn't really show up to lecture because I would rather use my limited time for reading in the library.

Yes it is possible. Just be sure to take small bites and always.... always keep an open mind and a humble attitude as you are self studying.

I think it is definitely possible to self-study, but you will need a way to check yourself to see if you really know the knowledge. Just doing practice problems, is hard because the solutions manual is right there. Is there anyway you can get your hands on some old tests for these subjects? Also, in the event you can't understand what the book is talking about do you have someone you can ask questions?



And, just because I'm curious. Why are you self-studying?

since my learning is almost entirely self study (lecture is inefficient learning imo, textbooks teach you so much more), i've found it EXTREMELY difficult to learn a whole subject by myself. the reason being for myself i don't have the discipline to sink in all the effort to learn a course by myself without the incentive of grades, tests, or homework problems. as someone who has always learned independently, i will vouch for the ability for the textbooks to give you the necessary knowledge, but also the difficulty of learning it in enough depth independently to really count as learning it, even in topics you are really interested in.

if you genuinely enjoy doing it and will be disciplined to do all the necessary studying, i guess you can do it. but the real question becomes, why? you will have to take the courses eventually, and while it is a good idea to be prepared for the classes, the investment may be too much. biology and chemistry is not too bad to learn by yourself, but ochem really takes a lot more effort and time to truly know everything.
