Is it possible to want to go into Ortho, yet dislike Generaly Surgery?

Hey all...I am thinking about going into Orthopedic Surgery, but I really didn't like General Surgery all that much. It was OK, but I felt like if I saw another hernia repair/appendectomy/cholecystectomy I was going to grab the damn knife myself. 😀
Is this unheard of? Did any of you Ortho guys dislike General Surgery? Thanks for the info.

i think it would be a red flag is you really liked general surgery. almost every ortho resident you meet will tell you how bad intern year is because you are doing all the gen surg stuff.

I think you're normal.

Some of the GS stuff was great. Most of it was not. The 6 weeks I spent on specialties was much better than the 6 weeks of GS.

Suturing soft tissues all day is boring.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I was just getting somewhat nervous b/c I begin my Ortho rotation tomorrow and thought back on how I really didn't enjoy General Surgery that much.
Well, now I'll get to see the beautiful world of Orthopedics. 😀

From the looks of it, I might need to reconsider my career decision. I actually liked general surgery.

^ Supra AND an MR2? God damn.

/jealousy

I wish I had both cars! I had to sacrifice the Supra which I built up with my own hands to help fund med school. I used a fraction of the money to buy an nonturbo MR2 and did the turbo 3sgte swap myself to make it affordable.

The MR2 isn't as fast in a straight line/highway, but it more than makes up for it in the twisties...it almost feels as if the car senses curves and lets me know which line I should take.

Presumably your ortho rotation is over now, so what did you think of it? Better than general surgery?
