Hi, I just came to have a question after hearing this from my parents, actually my parents heard it from the student's parents. So here is the situation:

Is it possible to go straight to medical school after graduating from high school, without MCAT score and BA/BS degree, but with her piano skills? I heard she lived in LA to do this, I guess she went to high school that offers the student to go to medical school after she graduate from high school, I guess she attended medical high school after all, like how to take MCAT and stuff you know LA has bunch of things like that? Anyways, so with all that she was accepted to John Hopkin's medical school after high school because of her piano skills and currently going to John Hopkins medical school.

is this really possible going to medical school out from high school without BS/BA degree and MCAT score but with only her determined will to become a doctor and music skills?😕

There are accelerated (6-year) programs that combine BSc/BA and MD degrees. However they take students based on their high school GPA and SAT scores, and are highly competitive to get into. So, I doubt "piano skills" was the only assessment in her acceptance.

In Europe yes (but limited). In America there are a few programs with an accelerated combined BS/MD program. I'm pretty sure you have to take the MCAT if you're considering applying to medical school.

Damn it, SU1989 was first! :nono:

As relative as the reasoning behind this thread...

ah, that makes sense. Why didn't I think about this accelerated program, haha. :smack: I guess getting BS/BA and MD degrees in 6 years wouldn't be bad but I bet there are bunch of studyings to do. Since the amount of time is reduced. By the way is the accelerated program has no GE credits but only 2 years of major program, the BS/BA, and 4 years of medical program? Plus they would do the residency and internships after this accelerated program right? or is it combined in the program?

And yes, she got many awards from playing piano. She did many things with her music skills.

But Frazier, it is doubtlessly obvious that music skills are purely essential in order to become a successful doctor. :bang:

:troll:

why is that music skills are essential to be a doctor? Well, maybe to the music therapy doctors but in general but why?

yes there are like university of toledo does it but they use your SAT's for admission.

I think so. I guess there's less flexibility with your curriculum and you probably aren't required to take any elective classes that do not count towards your major. There are some people in SDN who are doing a BS/MD program. I am sure they know more about this.

As for the residency being included in the program, I lul'd. They are separate.

lolwut 2 music therapy doctor.

i advise you to spend a day or two perusing these forums. you obviously have some sort of psychological disorder in the sarcasm detecting part of your brain. these forums will help you develop that area of the mind. in addition, you should look at the faq section.

its impossible to go right into med school. i know of many 6 year programs (2+4), but not direct.

sorry I tend to believe other's sarcasm as a true fact.😀

Lol, I was a concert pianist before going to college for science and I have to say, it opened very few science-related doors. Maybe a few interesting minutes in an interview, but that seems the end of it. Most parents "bend the truth" when talking about their kids, but if this happened, it was probably her piano skills + other impressive factors in an accelerated program. But that's rare. She'd have to have impressed adcomms in more ways than just music, I think.
