First please don't judge me, I don't want any hate on this thread, and I'm not too happy about posting this. So I'm going to be a Junior in high school this August. Freshman year My grades were crappy....no they were ****ty. I practically had all C's (not proud of myself) I will admit I slacked off, I changed schools due to bullying and the school I changed to was way a head of me so that made things even more difficult so it just wasn't a good year for me. Then this last year I made almost all A's with a few B's. So you can say I got it together, I think I could of still done a little better this past school year, but I still picked it up. Well because of freshman year my GPA on a 100 point scale is only an 86 ( I know not good) for the FAME (Facilitated Acceptance To Medical Education) Program my GPA has to be a 91, and you apply to the program when you apply to their college. Is it even possible to bring my GPA up from an 86 to a 91 in time for applying to college? I know getting into this program is difficult, and really it only cuts down on one year of school, but I also worry that because of my freshman grades and my GPA only currently being an 86 it will hurt me getting into colleges and a good pre med program one at that.

Yes. There is a chance to improve a high school rank and GPA in one year. Don't worry, though. Even if you are below 91 go ahead and apply.

If you took the same number of credits/classes this year and got a 100% in all of them, you'd land with a 90.67% (I'm not sure how this 100 point scale works though).

What's your science and overall GPA?
A 3.6 for both definitely sounds possible.

What a great program nevertheless!

And remember - plenty of people start off at community college and end in medical schools like Harvard.

Extracurricular and interests...academics, although important, aren't everything. What do you do? Are you making a difference? Thousands of applicants, I'm pretty sure, have top notch gpas and grades, test scores...whatever...but what makes you so different from the rest?
That is probably what goes through the people who are in charge of application's minds.

A lot is possible. I say still go for it and apply. But like another comment said, there is no problem going to a community college. I myself am attending a community college and plan to transfer to a good university. Yes, it's hard, that's a given. Going to a university is hard also if not HARDER. With hard work and dedication though, you can do the community college route. One problem is that students who attend community colleges tend to lose the devotion necessary for the career they want. This is because there are many, many, more people that aren't as motivated as those at universities. I wish you the best of luck. Keep your options open!👍
