admission? Seems like a ludicrous long shot. We all know people with ridiculous apps apply to GWU as a backup safety/school which makes it even more difficult for us normal people to get in. Should I really spend $125 on the secondary at GWU for only a 1.5% chance at gaining admission?

You have to understand that schools with a lot of applicants usually have a greater number of applicants with lower stats. The number of people that apply to Harvard is 1/2 that apply to GWU, but I would say that it is definitely harder to get into Harvard than GWU.

Getting into GWU is quite tricky without coming through one of their linkage programs. I'd say apply since their average stats kinda remains the same each season but don't put much stock in it.

unfortunately, I did apply to GW and pay the fee. I wouldn't do that again. Fortunately, I didn't apply to Georgetown's secondary after I realized how fierce the competition would be. On the other hand, I do know someone who got into and is going to GW. So maybe sometimes its worth it?

if you're interested in the school, i say go for it. what if it ends up being the one? i got accepted to and will be attending one of the schools that gets a crazy amount of apps (gtown). i'm so glad i didn't get scared away by the low acceptance rate, because you never know if you'll get in and compared to the total amount of debt we'll all be in a couple hundred bucks is just a drop in the bucket.

I have no opinion about how they should set their application fee. I just find it interesting that the interest in the school is so high despite the high application fee.

What do you think that it costs to run an office and process 10,000 applications in a very expensive city? I wonder if they do a lot of promotional touring and if they wine/dine the pre-med advisors of their feeder schools. Also, that kind of dough makes it possible to offer nice perks to the volunteers on the pre-med committee (lunch or a nice snack at committee meetings is much appreciated).

I bet GW sets their application fee so high because they have the freedom of doing so. As one of the schools that gets the most applications, why not charge a lot since the demand will still be there?

Maybe they're even trying to get fewer applications.

I would say, depends. Is GW one of your top choices? If yes, regardless of the high secondary fee, I would go ahead and apply. If no, use the money to apply to two other schools that you would rather attend.

FYI, 177 matriculants from 13294 applicants reflects a ~3% admit rate. They probably accepted around 370 students to get a class of 177.
