Is it still possible to get secondary applications, even without an MCAT score?

Hey everybody, thanks for reading this. I've been lurking around these forums for a long time now and this is my first time making a new thread or even posting, as almost every question I've had so far during this process was answered by searching through the archives. My situation right now though is this:

I'm applying to med school this cycle but I will not be taking the MCAT until July 24th (first time taking it). I will however be submitting my primary application on or around June 5th (as everyone seems to have made a big deal about submitting stuff early). From what I understand (and please correct me if I am wrong) your MCAT score will automatically be added to your application when it becomes available (i.e. late August) and then the schools you are applying to will be notified. My question is, during that intervening time (from whenever my primary application gets verified to when my MCAT scores get added) is it still possible to get secondary applications, even without an MCAT score? Or do I have to wait till late August before I hypothetically start recieving anything?

Thanks to anybody who took the time to read this, and even more thanks if you have any experience/answers with this situation.

P.S. What do people here think about Tulane University SOM?

P.S.S. As this is my first time posting, I would just like to state that I kind of hate this applying process and the getting judged part. I mean, that Bible quote "Thou art weighed in the balances, and thou art found wanting" keeps repeating in my head. I hope we all make it through this awesome. Good luck everyone!

I took the paper MCAT in Aug 2004. I didn't get my score until October. I submitted my AMCAS in June and started getting secondaries sometime in July if that's any indication.

EDIT: yes, your score is automatically added to your AMCAS app. You don't have to do anything.

i guess it may be too soon in the cycle for this year but last year SDN was really helpful for me in this area. i took the august MCAT so i would've had delayed secondaries and been really late trying to juggle school and secondaries but luckily people posted the secondary questions as they got them so i did all my secondaries over the summer and once my scores came and i got the secondaries i just copied and pasted and had them all done in less than an hour from the time i got them. keep on the lookout.

1. To reitrate what others have said, yes, your scores will be automatically added to your AMCAS application for schools to view whenever the scores are ready. Besides taking the MCAT and applying to schools, there is nothing else to do on your part for schools to receive your scores.

2. Schools vary widely in their 'secondary-sending' policies. Yes, some schools don't even have secondaries. Some schools send secondaries to every applicant - period! Some only send to applicants that meet their pre-set minimum GPA requirement (3.0 in most cases) while the more picky screeners hold back until they can take a peek at your MCAT.

Bottomline: if you have a decent GPA, expect to start receiving secondaries shortly after you hit the submit button on AMCAS.

3. Being judged is not necessarily a bad thing - it serves to separate the good from the bad and the fervent from the slackers. Only someone who has something to hide is afraid of judgment. So if your hands are clean then you don't need to lose any sleep. Work your hardest and pray to God for the best.

4. :luck: Good luck with this tediously looooooooog, patience-testing, energy-sapping, money-draining, anxiety-provoking and time-consuming process :meanie:
