Hey, I'm currently a senior in high school (and new to SDN!) who will be majoring in biology this fall. My question is that is it too early to start prepping for the MCATs? After going through the SATs, i've gotta admit, I wish I started studying earlier. I'm thinking to start working on the verbal sections this summer and start exposing myself to the bio and chem concepts on the MCATs. Is this a good idea? Any advice on what prep books i should use specifically?

Don't do it.

Life is too short to waste it on studying.

College -> graduate school -> residency -> medicine

You should be having fun. After college, assuming you get into med school, your life is going to be consumed with practicing and studying medicine.

Probably too early, finish those pre-reqs first! Either do something fun this summer or if you want to be gung-ho volunteer or do some EC you will enjoy. And hang out with those HS friends you might never see again! 😀

A few things...

1. getting into med school is not/should not be the end all be all thing most premeds believe even though you might feel like it now. Seriously, once you get in you realize that time for yourself is like very limited. So to waste your summer before college studying for the MCATs of all things is just not wise.
2. you're in college only once so you might as well enjoy it. Focusing solely on getting into medical school not only dampens your college experience but makes you a very uninteresting person to hang out with. Who wants to talk to someone who only talks about grades, school and med school. Relax.
3. MCAT prep books by kaplan are pretty good. They teach you the basics and they actually even have helpful hints and bullet points on important concepts you'll encounter in gen chem, bio and physics. So it's a good reference material too.

Yes, it's too early. Worry about doing well in those classes instead.
